An update from Peter Brown PNEAC on behalf of the New English Art Club

Peter Brown Mantlepiece Interior

We often refer to the New English Art Club as a family and at times like these, it has never been more pertinent. Many families around the world are together at this time but also many have found themselves locked apart, which is the situation we now find ourselves in – unable to enjoy our annual get-together in June at Mall Galleries.

Please know that we have not cancelled our 2020 Annual Exhibition, merely postponed it. We will let you know as soon as we have new dates, and when we can resume our educational programme of classes and workshops. We are also in the early stages of planning a members’ show with Mall Galleries (to run on their website) during what would have been our Annual Exhibition dates so do please look out for that.

Our selected members exhibition at Thompson’s Galleries is very much going ahead on their website, so we encourage you to browse the wonderful selection of works available to view and buy online.

Whilst it can be hard to focus with all this fear and uncertainty, I know many of our member artists are painting and drawing as never before. Great art comes from troubled times and I am sure our members will be taking their work to new levels. Those of us who can are sharing our work and thoughts through our websites and social media channels, as well as those of the New English.

This is a very worrying time, but also a time when we are all re-evaluating our lives and relationships with each other and the world. ‘This too shall pass’ they say, and I believe we will emerge a stronger world community where empathy, art and culture will be more important than they have ever been. I look forward to seeing you all again at our rescheduled Annual Exhibition, and – who knows – perhaps we might even be able to shake hands again.

Please stay safe and keep in touch.

Best wishes from Sarah, myself and all of the New English members
