'The Reductive Figure' 1-day life-drawing & painting workshop with John Dobbs

'When I go out to paint, my aim is to capture the essence of what I see as simply and unselfconsciously as possible. I am looking at the interactions of colour and shape, and through the accumulation of paint, the image finds itself. I keep going until my energy runs out.' John Dobbs

During this intense one-day workshop you will be making drawings from the model, and then use these to paint from. Throughout the day you can return to the model to make further studies. Working from drawings will prevent you from being too detailed, dealing only with the essence and what is important. You will be encouraged to use a limited number of marks and work with large brushes- even household brushes. Your tutor will show you examples of relevant artists work. The day will conclude with a plenary session.

About your tutor: John Dobbs NEAC trained as a Draughtsman in electrical engineering before becoming a full-time artist in 2003.He was awarded the NEAC Drawing Scholarship in 2012, and was elected a member of the NEAC in 2015. He was a finalist in the Lynn Painter Stainers Prize 2015.
