How to Bid:
Bidding in the Room
The auction will take place live at Mall Galleries on 22 October, with Freya Mitton acting as auctioneer. If you are attending in person, simply register on arrival and bid during the sale.
Absentee Bidding
If you are unable to attend the auction, the NEAC can bid on your behalf.
Each artwork page displays an starting price (minimum bid), which is the amount at which bidding will commence.
To submit an absentee bid:
- Browse the auction and select the artwork(s) you are interested in.
- Click the ENQUIRE button on the artwork page. A form will pop up.
- Tell us the maximum amount you would be willing to pay (in £GBP) for the artwork, together with your contact details.
Your maximum bid should be the highest amount you are prepared to pay. The NEAC will bid on your behalf up to, but not exceeding, that amount.
To submit multiple bids (i.e. for more than one artwork) please repeat the process for each painting.
How Does It Work?
For example, if a painting has an Opening Bid of £1,000 and you submit a maximum absentee bid of £2,000, the NEAC will bid for you during the auction, competing with bids from the room and from any other absentee bidders.
If the competing bidding stops at £1,500, you may secure the artwork for £1,600 (or the next bidding increment), rather than paying your full £2,000.
In other words, you will only pay the amount necessary to secure the artwork, up to your stated maximum.
Important Information
- Absentee bids must be received by 12 noon (UK time) on 20 October.
- Some artworks are subject to confidential reserve prices.
- In the event of identical absentee bids, priority will be given to the first bid received.
- Successful absentee bidders will be contacted following the auction to arrange payment and collection or delivery (at an additional charge).
- By placing a bid, you are committing to purchase the artwork should your bid be successful.
- On Monday 19 October, we will publish a snapshot of bidding activity on the auction pages of our website. We will also contact all absentee bidders with an update on the status of their bid, giving them an opportunity to revise their maximum bid before absentee bidding closes.
- Absentee bids may be revised up until the absentee bidding deadline (12 noon - UK time - Tuesday 20 October).
For full details, please read the Auction Terms & Conditions.
