How to Bid:
Bidding in the Room
The auction will take place live at Mall Galleries on 22 October, with auctioneer Freya Mitton in charge of proceedings. If you are attending in person, simply register on arrival and bid during the sale.
Absentee Bidding
If you are unable to attend the auction, the NEAC can bid on your behalf.
Each artwork page displays an starting price (minimum bid), which is the amount at which bidding will commence.
To submit an absentee bid:
- Browse the auction and select the artwork(s) you are interested in.
- Click the ENQUIRE button on the artwork page. A form will pop up.
- Tell us the maximum amount you would be willing to pay for the artwork, together with your contact details.
Your maximum bid should be the highest amount you are prepared to pay. The NEAC will bid on your behalf up to, but not exceeding, that amount.
To submit multiple bids (i.e. for more than one artwork) please repeat the process for each painting.
How Does It Work?
For example, if a painting has an Opening Bid of £500 and you submit a maximum absentee bid of £1,000, the NEAC will bid for you during the auction, competing with bids from the room and from any other absentee bidders.
If the bidding stops at £800, you may secure the artwork for £850 (or the next bidding increment), rather than paying your full £1,000.
In other words, you will only pay the amount necessary to secure the artwork, up to your stated maximum.
Important Information
- Absentee bids must be received by 20 October, the day before the auction.
- Some artworks are subject to confidential reserve prices.
- In the event of identical absentee bids, priority will be given to the first bid received.
- Successful absentee bidders will be contacted following the auction to arrange payment and collection or delivery (at an additional charge).
- By placing a bid, you are committing to purchase the artwork should your bid be successful.
For full details, please read the Auction Terms & Conditions.
The auction is part of a full day of events at Mall Galleries to celebrate 140 years of the NEAC, including artist demonstrations and a lecture on Sickert. Day pass ticket holders can also attend a private preview (at 6pm) of the fundraising auction artworks, with a complimentary drink on entry and live acoustic music by Bow & Bellows. Ticket sales and auction proceeds will help support the NEAC in its charitable and educational aims.
TICKET SALES AND AUCTION PROCEEDS Help Support THE NEAC'S CHARITABLE AIMS
Proceeds from sales will be shared between the contributing artist and the NEAC to help support its charitable and educational aims, including the NEAC Scholarship, Education Programme, and a series of prizes awarded at the Annual Exhibition, including the Climate Emergency Prizes.
