Drawing from Rococo Paintings at The Wallace Collection: half-day workshop with Laura Smith: Wallace Collection, London - Afternoon
Join Laura Smith for an afternoon focusing on masterpieces by Watteau and Fragonard and more from the Rococo period ...
London’s Wallace Collection is home to an extraordinary collection of paintings, including masterpieces by Watteau and Fragonard. This workshop will be focusing on masterpieces by these artists and more from the Rococo period. It can be so valuable to analyse the composition of these paintings by spending time with them.
Laura loves drawing from paintings. She believes that it slows down our looking and allows us to see more deeply into the mind of the artist.
Laura will draw alongside students, sharing her approach to the activity. The class will begin with a short introduction to the collection and suggestions for drawing subjects. Students will then be encouraged to split off and draw from whichever painting most appeals to them. Students will be encouraged to seek out works that speak to them and respond in their own, unique way. An hour before the end of the class, the class will come together to look at each other’s drawings. This will be followed by a walk round the paintings that have been drawn from so that thoughts can be shared.
Some drawing experience is required.
