Artist's Statement
'Drawing is fundamental to all my art work. Much inspired by travel, seeing new places with fresh eyes and making vital responses. I've painted a lot whilst travelling in India and most recently in Transylvania. Intriguing still life arrangements and complex interiors are a fascination. Haphazard kitchen collections and personal domestic spaces which require close analysis. And of course always beguiled by the ultimate challenge of figures and portraits.'
Method of Working
'Instinctively selecting what interests me most I make drawings and paintings directly from the subject, editing intuitively and working with spontaneous expressive marks in the window of available time. Invariably the subject matter dictates the medium, which could be inks pastels oils watercolours sometimes a combination - whatever makes the painting work. Studio works are developed from memories and sketchbook drawings.'
