Based in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, Andrew James was winner of the Carroll Foundation Award in 1998, BBC's Star Portraits in 2005, the Changing Faces Award in 2013 and the Ondaatje Portrait Prize in 2024. Andrew was elected to the Royal Society of Portrait Painters in 2002 and its Vice President in 2008. He was elected a Member of the New English Art Club in 2017.
