Capturing light: Second 1-day plein air workshop with Tom Benjamin: Railway Land Wildlife Trust, Lewes
Spend a day focused on capturing light in plein air painting on this beautiful Sussex nature reserve.
Join Tom Benjamin for a day focused on capturing light in plein air painting at the railway land nature reserve in Lewes. The reserve is home to four distinct water habitats: wet woodland, reed beds ponds and floodplain grasslands.
The day will begin with a demonstration focussed on choosing and composing a subject and starting the drawing out process. There will be further demonstrations looking at building up colour relationships to get a sense of light and space. Tom will give individual tuition while you are working and the day will rounded off with a quick look at what everyone done at the end.
ABOUT YOUR TUTOR
Tom Benjamin is a plein air oil painter working on coastal paintings landscapes and town and city scapes, He has also taught for many years, at West Dean College, the Verrocchio Arts Centre in Tuscany and Haddon Copse Farm in Dorset.
WHAT TO BRING

Bring your preferred medium. Tom will be demonstrating in oils but you can work in whichever medium you choose.

Bring your own painting equipment; surfaces to paint on brushes, thinners, rags, etc.

You can work with your own choice of colours but below is an oil colour list from Tom if you want guidance (based on Winsor & Newton but all brands will have equivalents)
Titanium white, Winsor lemon, Winsor yellow, Yellow ochre, Raw umber, Alizarin crimson, French ultramarine, Winsor blue green shade, Ivory black -
A light sketching easel / stool would be useful
- Please dress appropriately and come prepared for any weather conditions
