About

Artist Statement

Maurice Sheppard has painted winter landscapes since his school days. He was trained at Loughborough (1966-67), Kingston College of Art (1967-70) and the Royal College of Art (1970-73). His work, studied from life, supports the traditions of ‘Realism and Naturalism’. Since 2015, he paints what he calls ‘Decorations’, paintings simplified in line, colour and texture.

Method of Working

Maurice uses watercolour studies extensively to guide the aesthetic of his larger work in oil paint. These major oil works were shown in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions from 1971-2013 (some 70 oils and one drawing in ink). Now his work appears at the New English Art Club.
