These are slow paintings, layered up over weeks or months from direct observation.
The passing of time may be evident in subtle shifts of colour as the vegetation browns or greens with the changing seasons.
The subjects of the still lives are often found by foraging for the desiccated ghosts of last Summer’s hedgerow. Tenacious weeds whose morphology seems to connect with our own. Stamens like brittle eyelashes arching out to space and the flaky brown skin clinging to the bony ribs of dead leaves.
The drama is quiet and quotidian.
