ARTIST STATEMENT

'My paintings evolve, invariably using drawing as a starting point. Photography and film act as additional source material. Ideas often develop in response to places I’ve visited or have memory of. For me painting accumulates more relevance as moving images increasingly pervade our lives. I aim to make paintings in which human narratives are important.'

METHOD OF WORKING

'In the studio drawings evolve sequentially where a huge editing process takes place. Many things end up in the bin. I use charcoal and mainly oil paint. Often working on several pieces at a time, where the evolution of one piece can crystallize and inform another.'
