We are excited to announce the NEAC £5,000 Artist Scholarship, awarded by the New English Education Programme, to facilitate the artistic development of an early-career artist. An online silent auction of selected members’ work is now running to help fund the prize, ending 5 December 2021, 11:59pm.
NEAC President Peter Brown explains the aims and objectives of this new initiative, “Many people paint because they can afford to do so. But how many people cannot even consider it as an option? The barrier is, of course, a lack of money and support.
“The New English Art Club has a wealth of talent within its membership in professional practice, mentoring and teaching. Allying this with an enabling £5,000 award, we hope to encourage the practise of figurative art at grassroots level to as diverse a group as we can, and perhaps make the pursuit of art a viable option for those that would not normally have considered it. By doing so, the NEAC will benefit from engaging with a new generation of artists that we may never have seen.”
The new Scholarship will launch in summer 2022, with the name of the inaugural recipient announced at our Annual Exhibition at Mall Galleries.
As well as the £5000 award, the NEAC Scholar will also enjoy close mentorship with leading figures of the New English Art Club and free entry to all classes & workshops run by the New English Education Programme. In addition, a selection of their work created during the year will be displayed at the NEAC Annual Exhibition.
There will also be two £250 runners-up awards. The recipients of which will also be able to participate in mentorship, free classes & workshops, and to have their work exhibited at our Annual Exhibition.
Full details of the criteria and process for application are being finalised, so sign up for our monthly email newsletters for further announcements.
In the meantime . . .
As a registered charity, the NEAC relies on the generosity of the public and corporate sponsors. As well as the £5,000 award itself, the Scholarship comes with admin and promotional costs, so we hope will consider lending your support to help safeguard the long-term future of the Scholarship.
There are several ways that you can help . . .

We have a great selection of paintings, drawings and prints from our member artists available to purchase. The NEAC earns a commission on every sale, and until the end of 2021, 100% of this commission will go towards the new Scholarship. Browse works for sale including a selection for under £1,000.
