The Potential of Space, 1-day figure workshop with Paul Newland NEAC RWS

The object of the day is to focus on representing an extensive interior space, including objects, fellow students and a life model.

The dynamics of the space and the relationships of things within it will be approached using a variety of painting and drawing media, with chance and accident playing an active part. Think of this as being about the potential of space with its many pictorial possibilities.

A series of works will be the aim, although one work could (through overlaying) represent several phases of development.

Your tutor

Paul Newland NEAC RWS makes paintings which essentially combine memory with imagination and observation. His works often evolve over a long period of time in an on off sort of way. More recently he has begun to paint outside in oil paint where chance and accident have become part of his working process. Paul is also a member of the Royal Watercolour Society and has exhibited widely, he has won many awards including The Discerning Eye Purchase Prize in 2014.
