'Portrait and Pattern' 1-day workshop with Melissa Scott-Miller NEAC RP

This workshop will involve the drawing and or painting of a portrait, the subject will be Melissa's daughter Cordelia. The subject will be wearing clothes with a strong sense of pattern, in a textured and colourful set up.

You will be exploring how to portray textures and patterns in a way that enhances the portrait and including some objects, to make an interesting composition. Students will be encouraged to focus on detail but in a free way, painting alla prima, in one go or drawing in charcoal or pastels. Your tutor will show you examples by Klimt, Van Gogh's Pere Tanguy portrait, and also Japanese prints.

Colour is the main element in this workshop so there are no limits. The day will conclude with a plenary session.
