The Unspoken Narrative: workshop with Robert E Wells: The Heatherley School of Fine Art, London

19 March 2022
The Heatherley School of Fine Art, 75 Lots Road London SW10 0RN

This workshop continues to explore the use of the figure to drive narratives based on drawing from life ...

The day will start with a brief discussion as to how the human figure is used as a tool to develop stories, create tension, and suggest ambiguous or symbolic meaning. Students will then produce a series of rapid sketchbook studies of a clothed model and continue to create drawings of the model in relation to their broader surroundings within the room. This will be followed by a walk to a nearby small park where students will continue to create further studies of the model within the context of their surroundings. This can be approached in any medium, or stylistic direction.

After lunch students will return to studio for a brief overview. We will look to develop our findings in more depth, this can be in any format using any materials to help develop a narrative within the context of exploration. At the end of the session there will be an opportunity to examine our findings and consider how our ideas can be used in the future.

Please note the structure is meant as a general guide only and there will be plenty of room in which to pursue ideas as and when they arise.
