The first exhibition of the New English in 1886 immediately
established the NEAC as a strong voice. During the entire
20th Century, in spite of waves of movements that pulled
the art world in many directions, the club’s artists held to
their commitment to figurative art.

How to become a member of the NEAC
First, please submit work to an Annual Open Exhibition.
This takes place in November at the Mall Galleries,
London. The send-in days are in early October Generally
a prospective candidate will show for a few years,
during which time the work will become familiar
to members.
The prospective candidate must obtain the support
of 5 members who will sign the Candidates' Book.
When work is submitted to the Annual Open Exhibition,
if at least one work is chosen, he or she will become
a candidate, and will be invited to submit more
works at the time of the election (after the Exhibition),
to make a total of six works. Supporting material
and sketchbooks should also be submitted.
The candidate's name will then go before the membership,
and an election will take place.
